Alaska Airlines is near and dear to me as they are the only airline that flies direct to Seattle all day long from San Diego. With a reputation of being one of the best run airlines out there they are planning to expand their presence in California. That’s great news for all of us. More flights means more options which most of time means lower airfare.
By summer, three California cities will have nonstop connections from San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, thanks to newly announced flights by Alaska Airlines.
Beginning June 4, Alaska will offer twice daily flights to Fresno and one flight daily to Monterey. The following day, the airline will inaugurate its nonstop service to Santa Rosa.
To promote the new flights, Alaska is offering $59 fares to Fresno and Monterey and $69 fares to Santa Rosa. Those fares do not include a number of fees, including airport passenger facility charges of up to $9. U.S. federal segment tax of $3.80 for take off and landing, a Sept. 11 security fee of $2.50 and U.S. government excise tax of $8.40.
Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 25 and can be used for travel from June 5 through July 18 of this year.
Come June, it will be the first time that nonstop service to Santa Rosa has been offered. Although Monterey and Fresno were previously served out of Lindbergh Field by Express Jet, which ended that service in 2008.
The new routes will be operated for Alaska by Horizon Air using 76-seat Bombardier Q400’s.
Flights to Fresno will depart daily at 9:15 a.m. and 8:45 p.m., while the Santa Rosa and Monterey flights will depart at 9:45 a.m. and 6:55 p.m., respectively.
